Beautiful hike from the Simashütte near Unterberg (St. Corona) up to the Herrgottschnitzer-Franz-Kaupe-Hütte on Kampstein, which is open all year round.

Starting point of the hike

The snowshoe hike starts at the Simas Hut. Unternberg/St. Corona, near the valley station of the "Mini-Ski Area" Simas lifts. Simashütte It is only open in summer for two multi-day wine taverns and is otherwise only available for private events. Parallel to the ski lift, you hike up in switchbacks towards Kampstein. Here you can trudge through the snow in the forest and enjoy the peace and fresh air.

Destination of the hike

The goal or the stopover of the tour is the Herrgottschnitzerhütte, which was named in honor of Franz Kaupe. Hungry guests can enjoy delicious homemade cream slices and hot local specialties at the hut, which is open all year round. Dog lovers will also meet the hut owner's huskies, who enjoy being petted.

Highlights of the hike

In addition, the one and a half hour ascent is also rewarded with a beautiful view of the Wechsel region. From the Hergottschnitzerhütte, there are various options for further hiking. Experienced and well-conditioned hikers can climb the Kampstein peak at 1467 meters above sea level from here.

Directions

From Vienna Drive on the A2 Südautobahn, take the exit for Edlitz. Drive towards Aspang. Continue on Wechsel Straße/B54 towards Aspang. At the roundabout, take the third exit (Gutenberggasse). Turn right onto Bahnstraße. Slightly turn right onto Mühlgasse, Mühlgasse veers slightly to the right and becomes Sonneck. Continue on L137 until Unternberg. In the town center, drive through Unternberg towards Außerneuwald. Turn right onto Tauchner, follow this road until the end.

From Graz Drive on the A2 Südautobahn, take the exit Aspang. Drive towards Aspang/Zöbern. Turn left onto L137, follow this road until Aspang. Turn right onto Hauptplatz, then immediately turn left onto Gottsbergergasse. Turn left onto Mühlgasse, Mühlgasse slightly curves to the right and becomes Sonneck. Continue on L137 until Unternberg. In the town center, drive through Unternberg towards Außerneuwald. Turn right onto Tauchner, follow this road until the end.

Park

Parking facilities are available at the Simashütte.

Public transportation

Take the regional train from Wiener Neustadt main station (direction Aspang-Markt) to the final stop. Continue with regional bus 1762 (direction Kirchberg Wechsel Hotel). Get off at the Unternberg Gasthof Fahrner bus stop. It takes about half an hour to walk to the starting point at the Simashütte.
