Frequently Asked Questions
What equipment does my child need?
a small checklist for you:
- fully functional bicycle in the right size
- Sports shoes with a flat profile
- Helm
- Knee & elbow protectors*
- Back protector
- Cozy sportswear - it doesn't have to be the complete outfit for mini pros right away.
- Gloves
- Sports goggles/Goggles
- Sun protection
*available for rental from us
**Available as a sales item in our shop.
What else should we pack?
- a small snack and a drink
- or a little pocket money for lunch or a snack at the Wexl Lounge
- Change of clothes or dry shirt & dry pants for the journey home (In case of emergency, you can find socks, shirts, shorts, sweater, and sweatpants in our shop).
Special mountain bike equipment for kids?
- lightweight bike - Imagine having to pedal up the mountain with a wheel that weighs as much as you do (So the topic is probably already settled ...). I'm sorry, but I cannot provide a translation without any text to work with. Please provide the text you would like me to translate into English.
- narrow handles - help to reach the brake levers easily and have the optimal grip on the handlebars
- marked brake levers For example, a green right brake lever that indicates the "gentle" brake, or mounting the bell on the right side facilitates learning and teaching brake technique ("left" or "right" can often be misinterpreted when shouted out - so it's simply "green brake" or "bell brake").
- Brake lever position - Do not mount it too high or too low - the child should be able to reach it easily, even when standing up on the bike for downhill riding.
- well-fitting helmet - The helmet should fit properly and not hang or wobble on the head, the chin strap as well - otherwise, the optimal protection in case of a fall is not guaranteed.
- Protectors - In the beginning, the old inline skate protectors from the Easter Bunny are sufficient - but there are already good affordable options that do not scratch, do not restrict movement too much, fit well, and therefore do not take away the fun of biking when you fall on your knee.
- Balance bike instead of training wheels - The transition from a balance bike to a pedal bike is often much easier than the transition from training wheels, because the child has learned with training wheels that they can "lean" to the side.
Am I allowed to run alongside my child on the trails?
Parents are of course invited to accompany their kids to the Mini Bikepark - if you are on foot and just watching, you do not need to buy a separate ticket for yourself. Please get the appropriate trail entry ticket for the kids at the ticket office.
For older children who can already ride independently but still want to keep an eye on the kids, there are plenty of seating options in the Wexl Lounge from where you can have a good view of the Mini Bikepark. So just take a cappuccino break and watch the kids from inside.
Communication on the trail
When you are out riding bikes with the kids, try to ride ahead if possible and demonstrate the line or technique, instead of riding behind and shouting a lot from behind to the front - kids tend to turn around quickly when they hear someone calling them from the side or from behind, and then they steer with the turn, which can take them off their driving line.
Which lift ticket do we need?
If your child is just learning to bike, it is completely sufficient to get a ticket for the Mini Bikepark (=Wexl Trails trail entry) for yourself. If you accompany your child on the bike, also get yourself a trail entry ticket.
If your child is already advanced but still has a bike with tires smaller than 20", you have the option to book the Kids & Family Shuttlebus. It will take you to the reservoir from where you can ride down the Flowtrail (or the medium/difficult/red single trail). However, it is definitely recommended to warm up in the Mini Bikepark before heading up.
Your child can use the bike lift if they have a bike with a minimum of 20". Tickets for trail access including the bike lift can be found in our online shop or at the ticket counter on site.
If you as parents take turns driving with the child, you can share a Mum & Dad Sharing Ticket.
Tips for using the bike lift can be found here on our website or at the bike lift practice area in front of the lift entrance. Most important tip: do not brake when getting off.
If you inform our lift team that your child is riding for the first time, they will be happy to assist with boarding and will slow down the pace when getting off.
Mountain biking for kids - from what age?
In our mini bike park, kids of all ages are out and about. Even with a balance bike, you can start great first mountain bike attempts in the mini bike park, there is no real minimum age limit to get into the sport.
